Francesco di Vanni Malavolti

Francesco di Vanni Malavolti met Catherine through her follower Neri di Landoccio Pagliaresi at Neri's request. Francesco was a Sienese nobleman, who entered Catherine’s network around 1374, according to Suzanne Noffke.1 In the only existing letter to Francesco, Catherine wrote, “Comfort my soul, and don’t be so callous about your salvation as to cheat me of a visit from you,” and, “Come, dearest son! (I can well call you dear, so much have cost me in tears and sweat and bitter grief.)”2 This is a great example that showcases how much Catherine cared for her followers, and how she felt a deep relationship with everyone she met.
